Excellent book for people interested in learning more of the drawing basics, like perspective, texture, using negative space, etc. The projects are fairly varied and offer information about different media: pencils, pastels, pens, etc. The introductory materials cover the first 95 pages. This is where the drawing basics are covered with a lot of mini-projects. The larger projects are from pages 96-249. While there are a lot of steps included for the projects, I don't think there are enough steps for a true beginner. However, I gave my grandson who is 9 a copy and he is really enjoying tackling the projects. Please note: I purchased this book used and paid $0.01 plus around $4 for shipping. It came in excellent condition, the cover was a little dirty, and some of the pages were folded over, but for that price it is an amazing value! However, I also purchased another book which I paid $19.95 for: "Learn to draw with Pencils, Pens, and Pastels." I had no idea the book was the same book as this one. When I say the same, I mean the book includes the identical projects without any changes that are in this one. The only difference is the "Learn to draw with Pencils, etc." book does not include the first 95 introductory lesson materials. There should be some sort of indicator that the books are the same. Since I paid $19.95 for it I really feel like I was cheated out of that money.

Wonderful book. I bought it used, and it is in fair condition, but only paid $0.49 + shipping for it, so cannot complain. The book is written and illustrated masterfully and makes drawing look so simple. I used to draw years ago, and it definitely makes me want to advance my technique further. I should say everyone who uses this will definitely benefit and take up their style a notch.

Great service great product

Suck

This is an excellent book that can enable artists to produce professiional renditions. There is one major omission. My grandaughter used the book to produce a charcoal based on a lesson by Abigail Edgar the contributing artist. She framed the portrait and gave it as a gift. But when asked to identify the place or city buildings represented by the photo used by Ms Edgar the book did not include this information on page 194, or in the credit section of the index. Is there any way to find out where the photo was taken?

A great book that covers all the beginning theory you need to start drawing with pencils, and pens. Then it goes a step farther by covering the more complicated technique of introducing color into your sketch through the use of pastels. Whether your intention is to only sketch in pencil and pen or to someday aspire to paint in acrylics or oil, this is a good book to begin that journey.
