The workbook breaks each lesson into thought provoking sessions with 4 sections of homework and a daily reading assignment with the questions.The sections each work a different angle for the material and work directly with a chapter in the book and the scripture readings during the book.The first section - Another Look - has the reader review the chapterThe second section - Biblical Connections - works with the reader on the scriptures used by MacArthur in the chapter. The scriptures come from both the old and new testaments to truly provide you with an overall view of the plan of GodThe third section - Highlighting the Lesson - focus on the central points made by MacArthurThe fourth section - Lasting Implications - helps the student apply the chapter and the scriptures to their own life.We used this in our older generation Sunday school class. The participation kept growing each week and we were ended up with participants across the generations and lively, thought provoking discussion.I highly recommend this as a Sunday school class for adults.

In partnership with the book, this makes a very thorough study of the Apostles, their discipleship, choice by Christ, and how not only their lives were changed but he world as we know it. This departs from MacArthur's usual bible study in that it set up to be a daily study and has dedicated questions for each day in addition to a full study section. There are options you can use, though, to allow for use in a less intense approach, such as only answering the first two sections' questions. Overall, I love MacArthur's complete and insightful explanations of the scripture.

One very well thought-out Bible study. So far it appears to have locked down exact & real truth. Finally something out there the regular folks like us can easily relate to, as well as attain. Forget those other studies out there from the TV preachers. This one will REALLY equip you for life.

recommended by a friend- I got the workbook too. Well written and researched. This study is in-depth and many Bible text to support examples. I like the companion workbook to highlight and reinforce your reading. I am using for a youth Bible study and really like the ordinary aspect and their role in spread of the Gospel. It is an added benefit that the attributes of Christian leadership are also addressed in the Peter chapter.

This was a great help to utilize the book in group discussion. Twelve ordinary men tells the story of the tweleve deciples of Jesus and shows them in a light that allow us to know them as individiuals with various gifts, talents, and weaknesses as our own. I was thrilled a workbook was available to complement this book. The book arrived in good condition, was well packaged and offers greatquestions to guide conversation and thought.

This inspiring book, authored by John MacArthur, explains so very well why Christ chose these historical individuals ( just 12 ordinary men) men to be closest to Him. By reading this book one will have a much better understanding of each of the disciples and the reason they were selected. Dr. MacArthur is a wonderful writer, a very knowledgeable teacher and a dynamic preacher--my wife and I have been blessed to find him through this age of digitalization. Bob Smith

About the Author

Paul E. Jose, PhD, is Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Roy McKenzie Centre for the Study of Families at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He received his doctorate in Developmental Psychology from Yale University, completed his postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and taught and conducted research at Loyola University Chicago for 15 years. Dr. Jose's research interests include gender differences in spoken discourse, moral development, cross-cultural comparisons of adolescent coping and family dynamics, children's preparation and motivation for academic achievement, adolescent anxiety and depression, and positive psychology. He has used mediation and moderation for over 20 years in his work.

Paul Jose has done a great job on explaining statistical mediation and moderation: what they mean and how they are done. He writes in clear, easy-to-understand (for a stats book!) English, with relatively few complicated formulas. As an almost-finished Ph.D student, I really wish he had written this book a couple of years ago because it would have made my analysis so much easier to finish. Even if I were not interested in statistical mediation, the explanations of IV/DV vs. predictor/outcome would have been worth the cost of the book!I highly recommend it.

This is probably the best book I've seen on moderation and mediation with especially strong sections showing how do test for both using regression and other statistical methods. Most books fail to make the mediation and moderator distinction as clear or fail to show how relatively simple it is to test for their presence. In a recent lecture for my doctoral research methods class, I used some info from this book and students found it clear.

Excellent book. Explained the nuts and bolts of mediation analysis in easy simple terms, so novice statisticians and none statisticians can understand and use this valuable tool in their research. Only issue is that the kindle version is not allowed on the kindle cloud reader. Which is too bad if you need to access it via the kindle cloud reader instead of the kindle app or reader.

Best book on moderation and moderation for me - I feel it explained the processes better than Hayes when I was just familiarizing myself with the topic

Good book for introducing these techniques if you are moderately familiar with multiple regression and the basic ideas of path analysis. Easy to read with good examples and the data sets he uses, so you can play with these approaches yourself.

This is a very well-written text. It starts with a basic model using multiple regression and includes more sophisticated SEM methods. I read the entire book and did the exercises. Highly recommended

Prof. Jose did a very good job!Explain the statistical theory of Mediation and Moderation analysis briefly. Give lots of tips and resources for applied researchers.I have read half of the book and recommended it to graduate students or researchers on psychology (BTW, Paul himself is a psychologist) and other social science.

It's a really good book! I strongly recommend to those who are looking to find out an easy way to understand mediation and moderation analyses.

Mr. Wideman is a capable writer but this book of stories has a writing style that is hard to follow as it seems choppy and seems to lack continuity. The stories consist of separate paragraphs, some of which are related and other paragraphs unrelated. Paragraphs marked by large spaces between them.

I received a free Kindle copy of American Histories by John Edgar Wideman courtesy of Net Galley and Simon and Schuster, the publisher. It was with the understanding that I would post a review on Net Galley, Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and my fiction book review blog. I also posted it to my Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus pages.I requested this book due to the description given on Net Galley. It sounded interesting and compelling. It is the first book by John Edgar Wideman that I have read.I had very high hopes for this book after reading the description and reviews of other books by the author. Unfortunately, I found this book a struggle to read due to the author's style of writing. The book itself is a series of short stories dealing with the struggles and challenges of African Americans. These are stories that need to be told, but a more consisent and readable approach is needed.As other reviewers have rated this book highly, I will not not recommend this book, but suggest that you get if from your local library before making a purchase decision.

In American Histories, Wideman brilliantly exploits a “threefold ordering of times”, offering the reader a story in the time of its narrator, the time in which the narrative takes place, and in historical time.In the first story of American Histories, John Brown and Frederick Douglass debate the morality and tactics of a slave uprising. Both men are willing to give their lives, and deaths to end slavery. Wideman narrates the debate in the voices of Brown, Douglass, a modern storyteller, and strikingly, a “colored John Brown”, all living the legacy of JB and FD.In other stories, Wideman remembers his dead family, tells a hall of mirrors story of watchers watching watchers watching, and a greek tragedy of murdered and murderers.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Some of the stories are fascinating and well done while others I found hard to get into. But any history lover will enjoy reading it.

Being more than just a final resting place, cemeteries offer so much more for the living than just a place to visit our dearly departed. There is so much history and symbolism in cemeteries and I can't think of a better tribute to those who lie beneath the stones than taking the time to understand who they were. Hanging out in a cemetery isn't creepy, it's a learning experience. This book is the perfect size and the photos and research really show the authors passion for this subject.

After a trip to the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah Georgia, I was interested in learning more about the meaning of cemetery gravestones and symbols. For instance, I had heard that a tree with the limbs cut off mean that a child has preceded the parent in death. I was interested in learning more and was looking for a reference book. This book is called a field guide and is very interesting and easy to reference if you're looking for something in particular. I would highly recommend it!

The most thorough guide I've found yet, with plentiful CLEAR illustrations (photos) and a complete explanation of those mysterious letters and symbols found on old headstones. I keep this book in my car, as I will pull off the road and park the car to explore any old cemetery or churchyard I come across. The small size makes it easy to tuck into a purse or backpack. Lots of great photos; a couple of them taken in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, CA, which is just up the street from my house. If you enjoy wandering around in the park-like atmosphere of old cemeteries, admiring the stonework, and are curious as to why those upside-down torches are so common on mausoleums, get this book--you'll be glad you did!

This is a fascinating book. I wish I lived in an area with old cemeteries so I could take up the hobby of reading old headstones, some of which can really tell a lot about who is buried there. If I lived in New England, or England for that matter, I'd keep this book in my car and whenever I found a likely cemetery I'd go inside and read the messages from the past.This book is enjoyable for anyone.

This is a fabulous little book for anyone interested in the meaning of symbols on gravestones. It is exquisitely produced with glossy pages and superb photos. The size is such that you could carry in your pocket to a graveyard, but it is too nice to take outside. It is very well written and explains the meaning of symbols in an understandable manner. Unlike most gravestone books, it has a welcome touch of humor on some conventional beliefs but in a respectful manner to all religions. If possible, I would give this ten stars except for the fact that there is only very brief coverage of the symbolism on seventeenth and eighteenth century New England gravestones. While the illustrations of monuments in Italy are beautiful and interesting, more on the early gravestones of America and how they evolved would be much more useful to those of us not likely to get to Italy. Despite this omission, the book is useful for the US cemeteries from the nineteenth century on.

Stunning book. Interesting artist. Quite the personality! One of my favorite spots in Paris is St. Phalle's fountain at the Pompidou Museum. I like to sit at a café and just look. Everytime I am there, I find something different.

A superb book. That describes it in detail. This is a journey through her art and dreams. It is beautiful in colors and the openness of her writings make her work even more vivid than the book's photography (if that is possible).If you are familiar with her work, then you will love this book. If you aren't familiar with it, you will enjoy meeting an artist that lived her dreams and built fantastical monuments to them.

The text was originally written in German, so perhaps this is a case of "losing something in the translation". I found the text exceptionally boring.I had only heard of Niki deSant-Phalle as a designer of perfume bottles, so I was very interested to learn more about her and her more serious artwork (if such a term can be applied to Niki's work).I'm about to take a sculpture class, and I'm trying to collect books on contemporary women artists to get my creative juices flowing.The pictures in the book are beautiful, but I found most of Niki's vision to be unfortunately "dated". Like something you'd see outside a theater playing "The Yellow Submarine", paired with a few Peter Max drawings.In other words, I see these colorful sculptures married to the "psychedilic" artwork of the 60's, and early '70's. Not as pieces of timeless art.

This book is a must have for all people who have found Niki de Saint Phalle's work. It's a beautifully photographed and designed book, covering decades of her work - and it is impressive work! I have enjoyed owning this book and can't recommend it highly enough. If you have yet to spend time with her work, there is no better introduction than this particular book. I found her work by accident in another book, and am now enchanted and delighted and her biggest fan - well, excluding the Marelli family in Italy who provided the land and financing for her largest masterpiece, the Tarot Garden. However, while this momentous work is amazing, her Nana's and other large installations will give you much joy and pleasure also. I had been skeptical about the "shooting paintings" but this book pictures them so well, that you can see the beauty and artistry in them as well. Buy it, you'll love it.

This book is THE guide to have if you have a child with ADHD anywhere in Latin America. It has examples of cultural bias towards the condition and what to do to combat those, in ways that other books that deal with children in the USA do not. Latin ( and Puertorrican in particular)culture has its own... kink... that not all researchers and professionals are aware of or know how to deal with. Dr. Bauermaister has hit the nail on the head with this one. Highly recommended.
